Fractions

Students in 5/6 have been having fun learning all about fractions in mathematics. 

We have focused on learning fraction families, placing fractions to number lines, equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting fractions, fractions of a group and  improper fractions.

During our novel time each day we have also been exposing the students to all of the wonderful books that have been nominated for Book Week prizes. Many of the stories have interesting settings, visuals and character development which has led to rich conversations with the students sharing their ideas.

Book Week is just around the corner. So start thinking about your costumes!

Soccer World at Fraser School

World Cup fever has hit Fraser School. Students are placed into 16 teams and are playing games against each other.



There has been excellent sportsmanship displayed in all games.

Show Us Your Best Writing

We have been working on a writing project where students were given the opportunity to show us their best writing.

There has been a variety of writing pieces produced including: narratives, persuasive writing, poetry, information reports and procedures. 

Students were also able to choose if they created a pencil and paper piece or if they submitted their writing through the Google Drive. 

We have been very proud of the students writing efforts.

Rabbits, Hares and Foxes

The game of choice for most of this year has been observation tips.



Recently students have become interested in another PE game: Rabbits, Hares and Foxes.



This is a a variation of build up tips that involves running and dodging skills. It is great to see students participating enthusiastically and showing good sportsmanship at all times!

Year 6 and Kindy Buddies

We recently attended some Buddies sessions with Kindergarten students.

The younger students loved having help from their year 6 buddies to complete an art piece.

It was wonderful to see the kindness and caring help provided by the older students during these fun sessions.

I'm sure the year 6 students will be visiting Kindy again soon!

We All Fit Together art display

Our learning in art continues in 5/6. We jointly constructed an artwork entitled: We All Fit Together.

Each student created a puzzle piece where they included things that told others all about them. There was a great variety of puzzle pieces created which were all very individual and unique.

Excursion: Questacon.

Students attended a fun and education excursion recently to Questacon to support learning taking place in Science.

Students explored all of the galleries and participated in a variety of hands on science activities.

An educational show, about how technology has changed historically, was very informative and had students thinking about technology in their lives.
