Art Attack!

Unit 3 have been having great fun with art this week!

5/6 BH/BL got right into the chilly weather with an autumn themed artwork. These terrific trees will soon be adorning our classroom.

Meanwhile, in 5/6 GN/SR/CV, students were busy creating beautiful bubbles.  These looked fabulous, particularly once they were hung en masse  in the classroom.

If you get a chance, please pop into our rooms and checkout your child's work.

Hooray for History!

Our History inquiry about Australian federation came to a conclusion this week, as students wrapped up their independent research inquiries.  They were able to choose from a range of topics - The Plague, Sir Donald Bradman, Galipolli, Pharlap or Jandemarra and they had to investigate what contribution their person/horse/event made to the development of our young nation.  Students also had to come up with some additional questions of their own, after they had done some preliminary reading about their topic.  Another requirement was that they had to communicate their findings to their peers and we challenged them to make their presentation interactive in some way.  This resulted in a variety of presentations including interactive posters, a script for a quiz show, some interviews and even a Scratch project

Today students spent time sharing their work with a peer and using a checklist to provide their partner with some feedback.  The buzz in the classroom was fantastic, with everyone enjoying the opportunity to share their hard work and learn about other topics from their peers.

Check out their great work...

Federation Fun At The National Museum

Our learning focus in History this term has been on Federation and what life was like in Australian the early  1900's.  As part of our learning we went on an excursion to the National Museum of Australia.

While we were there, we had the opportunity to work with the museum educators to handle and analyse some artifacts (and replicas) from the period.  Students worked hard in their groups to identify what the mystery objects were, what they were used for and what theme they related to - transportation, federation, conflict, sport or the gold rush.  They did some fabulous deep thinking and enjoyed the opportunity to handle real artifacts from the period.

We also spent time in all of the galleries at the museum, with many students making great connections between their in class learning and real life objects they were seeing in the museum.  The Gallery of First Australians also allowed us to look at Australian history from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspective and learn more about the richness and diversity of their heritage and culture.

K-space was also a big hit with students.  They created their own digital robots and then, working in small teams, they ventured through a range of historical periods to complete challenges as they learnt about particular events from our history.
