Technology Learning

As part of our project work on Natural Disasters, students have been challenged to construct a home that can withstand a disaster.

Students could choose from:
  • earthquakes
  • tsunamis
  • floods
The house must protect an item such as a paper flower, small cup of rice or a raw egg. Once completed, these houses will be undergoing some rigorous testing from the teachers to see if they can survive against the chosen disaster!

Art: Ned Kelly

As part of our learning in History we completed a visual art task based on the famous Ned Kelly painting created by Sidney Nolan.

Students were able to use a variety of techniques to create their artwork including:

  • drawing
  • painting
  • collage

Students enjoyed the activity and created fantastic artworks!

Cross Country

Yesterday we bravely went ahead with our cross country carnival and luckily we had some lovely sunny weather.

There was enthusiastic house cheering and support shown during the event.

Students engaged in practice running sessions prior to the day and it showed with strong participation from our year 5/6 students.

Sean Choolburra Performance

Yesterday students across the school attended a fun and informative dance performance from Sean Choolburra.

He demonstrated four different dances to the students including a crocodile and dragonfly dance.

Sean invited student participation during the performance with students using clapping sticks, playing didgeridoos and using digging sticks to poke an echidna.

To end the performance students were invited to join Sean on stage to dance together.

5/6 Camp Cooba

Last week students attended a fun filled camp at Camp Cooba near Cooma in NSW.

Students spent many hours outside and luckily we had warm, sunny weather.

Activities included:
  • big swing
  • flying fox
  • mountain biking
  • assault course
  • bush games
  • archery
  • team maneuvers

Many of the activities focused on team building and working together to achieve a goal.

Science in 5/6

Students have been busy learning about energy in science. They have been conduction investigations to further their knowledge of solar and light energy sources.

We have modified a can to see if we can maximise its ability to heat water. Students have also tested a variety of materials to determine whether they are transparent, translucent or opaque.

Our next investigation will focus on shadows. Feel free to ask your child about their learning in Science!
